初級文法--3. 冠詞 (1) Articles (1)

Google Docs
Do you know how to use a, an and the
你知道怎麼使用a, an the嗎?

Look at these examples to see how articles are used.
看以下例句來觀察冠詞如何使用。

She's a doctor. 她是一位醫生。
I need an umbrella. 我需要一支雨傘。
Have you heard the news? 你有聽過這個新聞嗎?
I don't like spiders. 我不喜歡蜘蛛。

Grammar explanation 文法解釋
Here are some of the most important things to know about using articles.
以下是一些關於冠詞最重要的東西。

Jobs 工作
When we say what people's jobs are, we usually use a/an.
當我們說某人的工作,我們通常會用 a/an

He's an architect. 他是一位建築師。
She's a scientist. 她是一位科學家。
My grandmother was a teacher. 我的奶奶曾是一位老師。

Singular nouns 單數名詞
Singular, countable nouns always have an article – a/an or the (or another determiner – my, your, this, that, etc.).
單數可數名詞總是會有冠詞(a/anthe) 或其他限定詞 (my 我的、your 你的、this 這個、that 那個 ......等等)

We use a/an – the indefinite article – when we talk about something for the first time, or something that is part of a group or type.
我們使用 a/an (不定冠詞) 當我們第一次提到某個東西,或是某個隸屬於一個團體或種類的東西

I saw a good film yesterday. 我昨天看到一部好電影。
Do you want a drink?你想要喝一杯嗎?

We use a when the word that follows it begins with a consonant sound. We use an when it's followed by a vowel sound. This makes pronunciation easier.
當下一個字是子音開頭,我們使用冠詞a。當下一個字是母音開頭,我們使用冠詞an。如此一來發音會較為簡單。

She has a university degree. 她有一個大學學位。(university 發[ju]的音)
It took me an hour to get home. 回家花了我小時。(hour發 [aʊ]的音)

We use the – the definite article – when the listener already knows which thing we are talking about because it was mentioned before or because there's only one of them.
我們使用 the (定冠詞),當聽者已經知道我們在講的是什麼東西,原因是因為之前已經提過了,或是因為那個東西只有唯一一個

I'm going to take the dog for a walk. 我將要去遛那隻狗。
Have you seen the car key?你有看到那個車鑰匙嗎?
They go to the school next to the bridge. 他們去那個橋隔壁的那間學校。

Things in general 泛指整體
When we talk about things in general, we normally use a plural or uncountable noun with no article.
當我們泛指整體,我們通常會使用可數名詞複數不可數名詞(不加冠詞)

Birds eat worms. 鳥吃蟲子。
Water freezes at 0°C. 水會在0度結冰。
Children need a lot of sleep. 小孩需要很多睡眠。

Particular groups of things 特定一群東西
When we talk about a particular group of things, we use the.
當我們談到一個特定一群東西,我們會使用 the

We went to the zoo and saw the kangaroos. (These are the particular kangaroos in that zoo – not kangaroos in general.)
我們去那個動物園,並看到那群袋鼠。 (那些是特定的袋鼠在那家動物園-- 不是一般的袋鼠喔)
