GRE寫作怎麼有效率拿高分？ (ISSUE, 狀況1對策)
大家好，創勝文教王梓沅老師。在下面兩篇文章當中，用自己曾經也是GRE考生的角度，與大家分享GRE寫作拿高分的秘訣，以及分析幾本大家較常聽過的GRE寫作書的利與弊，提供大家參考，希望能對大家有幫助喔。

<ISSUE篇>
在ISSUE的寫作上，大家最容易碰到的幾個狀況如下:
狀況 [1]即便有論證想法、例子也都準備好了，用英文寫出來時，「詞不達意」，充滿
文法、句構上的大錯誤。
狀況 [2]
受到中文寫作的影響，容易離題，思維發散。缺少「英文寫作裡的每一句話，都要扣緊thesis statement」的概念。
狀況 [3]
因為文章題目相較TOEFL來說較困難，也較抽象，raters 所要求的論證質量也
不同（畢竟托福是英語語言考試，GRE只是以英語為載體的考試) ，很多學生在這樣的要求下，寫不完5段式文章。如此的狀況常常來自於有人「開頭想太久」、
「thesis statement 想太久」、「打字慢」、「用英文思維會導致思維速度慢」等等，
這些狀況容易導致虎頭蛇尾，論點不明的文章，導致可能連3.5都拿不到，甭論超過4分。
狀況 [4]
遇到題目時傻眼，因為遇到該題可能連用「中文」都不一定能在30分鐘內寫得
好。那怎麼辦呢？真的要考前花那麼多時間每一種題型分類都要想幾個例子出來嗎？
狀況 [5]
不知道怎樣的文章，怎樣的辯證理路，才是 “sweet and short”(in other words, succinct), “cohesive and coherent”。ETS 的raters (be they human raters or computer
raters) 到底喜歡怎樣的東西呢？
因為空間和ptt閱讀舒適度關係，在此篇先跟大家分析「狀況一」的對策。
「狀況1」對策
考生的準備時間不多，沒有辦法使用曠日廢時的「學術寫作實力養成」方式衝出
GRE Issue分數。大家請要放心，ETS要的，其實也沒有那麼多。
Issue 跟 Argument 不太一樣的地方就是，沒有那麼清楚的「高分模板」可以背和臨摹
（即便有誰做出了，大概也不會讓你拿到4分)。所以很重要的是，大家口袋裡的學術寫作 (Argumentative Essay)的「句子句構」要多。這些句子，我建議大家在考前可以去買「Foreign Affairs」雜誌來讀讀。裡面充滿著大家可以立即使用的句構
（經濟學人和時代雜誌在短期間內的閱讀是沒辦法增進寫作的)。
大家需要培養的能力，像是要談到爭議議題，可以立即用出：
1. Opinions are
divided over whether or not…..
2. There has been
heated debate over whether or not…
3. …has been
subject to intense public and media scrutiny.
4. Since (自從)…, ……has been an issue that has provoked
controversy
and
considerable discussion among…
如果記憶力更好的人，可以記憶更大的句塊，如以下:
Controversy over
government funding for the arts is waged

government support is beneficial to production or if it harms its
integrity.
比起臨時湊出的 Many people have different opinions about 更像是學術寫作，也因
為它們是固定好的「句型塊」，可以替我們省下時間去拼湊。
再舉一個例子。一個議題、一件事情很重要、位居核心位置的時候，與其
說 “...is very important” 我們可以用:
1.The significance
of….cannot be overemphasized.
2.…plays an
integral part in…
3.(倒裝) At the heart of the issue is…
4. (倒裝) At the epicenter of the problem is…
5. At all levels
of…, there are compelling reasons for…to…
e.g. At all levels
of education, there are compelling reasons for educators
to seek out and
consider student input and feedback.
6.…is central to …(看起來很簡單，但很少人善用它喔)
談到缺點、強調事情、對某事做讓步、強調沒有絕對性等等，其實issue的寫作就是充斥著這些包著我們的論點的句塊，要是這些句塊夠多，就像運動員「基本動作好」，寫起來就能專注在論點的表達。另外一方面，很多同學跟補習班老師眾說紛紜著「文法修辭」到底重不重要。有同學面臨著緊張時「文法會大爆炸」該怎麼辦呢？其實，就從ETS Official Guide裡頭所頒布的寫作評分rubrics來看，我們就可以知道，「文法還是佔有一定的重要性」的。但有些像是「英語冠詞」，是他們會原諒非母語人士的文法，也相對比較不會影響閱讀的flow。但如果是一個句子有兩個動詞 (動詞帶有句子的重要成分)，會影響閱讀甚至是句義理解，就要小心不要犯了。
所以大家在練習寫作時，可以自己檢查下面幾個部分：
1.主詞動詞一定要「非常清楚」容易找到
2.Subject-Verb
Agreement
3.Noun Agreement
(Apple has just released "its" latest iPhone.)
4.動詞類型 (e.g. 及物不及物)
5.名詞 countability (e.g. to predict future
disaster ---未來只有一個災難？)
6.後面加子句的東西不要加名詞 後面加名詞的東西不要加子句 (e.g. given 後面不
要加子句)
7.使用分詞構句時，有沒有 Dangling modifier
8.句子有沒有 Fragments
9.使用比較級時，兩者是否可比
10.搭配詞是否正確

[分享]GRE你不可不知道的關鍵句構
在 GRE 寫作裡頭，不管是 Issue 還是 Argument，在思維深度上的要求，都比TOEFL,
IELTS 的寫作來來得⾼高。例例如，以托福的 Independent Writing 和雅思的 Section 2 寫作來來看，⼀一⾯面倒的寫法要拿很⾼高分還是有可能的。但在 GRE Issue寫作裡頭，⼀一⾯面倒是難以拿⾼高分的，依題⽬目主題和 prompt 的敘述的不同，⼤大多需要走7比3，有時甚⾄至要寫5比5的寫法。
但不管是哪⼀一種寫法，對於台灣學⽣生最難的就是，如何將頭腦裡的中⽂文思維，在限時內順利利地轉化成英⽂文，我們需要很多先前所建構好的語塊 (prefabricated semantic chunks)。無疑地，content 是寫作中非常重要的⼀一塊，但對於非母語人⼠⽽言，language 會⼤大⼤大影響我們表達思維的效度。
這一系列列的⽂文章特別整理理出來來，GRE 寫作考超過5分的⼈人，寫作時常⽤用的⾼高分句句塊，嘗試在練習時習慣這些句句塊，就越能將⾃自⼰己的思維不離題、無礙地表達出來來。
